Schanzenfeld

History

Schanzenfeld, one of Manitoba's first Mennonite settlements was described as new in 1876.

The name commemorates Jacob Y. Schantz, who helped put the colony on a strong financial basis. Schanzenfeld is located 1 mile south of Winkler and has seen rapid growth in the last number of years.

Students in Schanzenfeld attend the Southwood Elementary School for K-3 and the recently constructed Prairie Dale Middle School for grades 4-8.

Construction on Prairie Dale Middle School was completed in 2011.
